Platte Valley Presbytery - Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)

Randy Arms

My name is Randy Arms and I’m the pastor here at New Song Church (formerly Grace Reformed Church, Gretna). I’m married to Angie and we have a son named Cury (now 12) and a daughter named Praja (age 7), and two Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs named Jersey and Shae.

We’ve been here in Omaha since the summer of 2004 which is when I graduated with a Master’s of Divinity degree from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO, where we’d lived for four years. Prior to that I had been on staff with The Navigators, doing college ministry at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln for three years. I had also had the privilege of serving with The Navs overseas – in Zambia, Africa for about a half a year back in 1996. Before that, I’d worked several odd jobs after having graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Some of those odd jobs have included working as a teller at a bank, maintenance, waiting tables, working for a home builder, throwing boxes for FedEx Ground AND UPS.

We’ve loved our time here at GRC/New Song. I look back on all that work experience with joy – even though I may not have loved each and every day of work back in those days. If I’m brutally honest, I don’t look upon each and every day these days with the joy that my salvation ought to have granted me. My time at seminary helped show me that all of what we do serves in the process of shaping us into the person God has uniquely called us to be. I’m convinced that – in whatever ministry God has called us to be in – we are all called to image God with our whole being, thus bringing glory to Him.

And that’s why I feel so strongly about being involved in a local church… I need help!

God has and continues to work within community. He has established His church not only to result in His glory, but subsequently to meet our unique needs as individuals and families. I’m passionate about the areas of community and outreach here at New Song, and if I can be of any help to you in these particular areas – or anywhere else – let me know! I’d be glad to try to help.

If you are looking for a place to call home, please come and be our guest here at New Song. I look forward to getting to know you!

Other interesting facts about me:

St. Louis Cardinals fan (which means I have lots of fun at Pastor Olson’s expense!)

Of course, a Husker through and through

The reading of books takes up lots of my time… some favorites include: J.I. Packer, John Piper, John Stott, Anthony Hoekema, Jerry Bridges, C.S. Lewis, Larry Crabb, and Bryan Chapell. A couple of books I’ve chugged my way through this last year (and would recommend!) are The Enemy Within, by Kris Lundgaard and The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, by Edmund Morris.

Enjoy golfing; racquetball; visiting CO to hike, ski or bike; eating food; watching movies and the TV show 24 with Angie; cheering my son on in soccer and T-ball, and learning all I can about the country of India!
